OKLAHOMA CITY – Seven Metro Tech students were recently selected as recipients of the Oklahoma CareerTech Foundation’s Otha Grimes scholarships. A total of $3,300 was distributed among the students with each student receiving between $300 and $600. Awarded twice a year to postsecondary students enrolled in a program of Oklahoma CareerTech, these scholarships are used for tuition expenses and then released directly to the students once their balances are paid for the semester.
Metro Tech Scholarship Recipients are:
Aiden Quigly – Aviation Maintenance
Alfredo Vasquez Ruiz – Aviation Maintenance
Leonardo Rodriguez – Welding
Jacob Hardie – Surgical Technology
Amelia Cooper – Aviation Maintenance
Corey Mason – Aviation Maintenance
Tatiana Wahwasuck – Radiologic Technology
For Surgical Technology Student Jacob Hardie, the scholarship will allow him to continue pursuing a career in the healthcare industry.
“Towards the end of my undergraduate degree, I took an advanced cadaver course, and that’s when I realized I had a passion for human anatomy, so I decided to go the CareerTech route,” he said.
Upon completing the program at Metro Tech, he plans to start work immediately. Still, he hopes to continue his education to become a physician or certified surgical first assistant sometime in the future.
This year, The Oklahoma CareerTech Foundation awarded more than $89,000 in scholarships to 194 postsecondary students in Oklahoma. The scholarships are awarded in honor of CareerTech Hall of Fame Inductee Otha Grimes, who owned Ogeechee Farms in Fairland and was considered a pioneer in the performance testing movement that has become the standard management practice for beef cattle producers.
