Two creative lucky ducks will win $15,000 college scholarships. Each year, teens are challenged to create promwear out of duct tape for a chance to win funds to further their education.
Everyone is invited to vote for their favorite prom fashions in the 25th Stuck at Prom Scholarship Contest. Hailing from the shores of California to the rolling hills of New York, this year’s contestants turned up the style with prom looks crafted entirely out of Duck Brand’s Duck Tape.
The top 10 finalists have been chosen. Competing against nearly 150 entries by teens from across the United States and Canada, the 10 potential grand-prize winners are driving the next generation of DIY couture.
The top trends include corset silhouettes, dramatic trains and avant-garde accessories, like sculpted headpieces and custom clutches. Students pulled inspiration from fairytales, nature, pop culture and the runway, mixing bold colors with vibrant patterns to create eye-catching designs.
“From elegantly layered floral dresses to tuxedos inspired by cultural roots, the creativity is unmatched, and every detail is handcrafted,” Kerry Haugh, director of product marketing at Shurtape Technologies, LLC, the company that markets Duck brand, said. “In total, the finalists spent over 1,000 hours and used more than 200 rolls of duct tape to make their ensembles, showing how today’s teens are blending fashion with craft, creativity and pure heart as they give it their all for a chance at the grand prize.”
A panel of judges evaluated the entries and selected the top 10 designs, five from the dress category and five from the tux category, based on criteria including accessories, color, workmanship, originality and the use of Duck Tape.
One dress entrant and one tux entrant will each take home a $15,000 cash scholarship. All runners-up will receive $1,000 and a Duck brand prize pack valued at $100. Additionally, three of the eight remaining runners-up will be honored with a Judge’s Choice Award worth $1,000.
