PSAT provides students with opportunities for academic growth and scholarships – WISH-TV

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The PSAT NMSQT, a critical test for high school students, will be administered to 10th and 11th-graders across the country this October.
The PSAT NMSQT, which stands for Preliminary SAT National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, is a two-hour exam that assesses students’ reading, writing, and math skills. It serves as a practice test for the SAT and connects students to $300 million in scholarship opportunities annually.
Priscilla Rodriguez, Senior Vice President of College Readiness Assessments at the College Board, emphasized the importance of the PSAT NMSQT as a tool for academic development and scholarship qualification.
Students receive score reports a few weeks after taking the PSAT NMSQT, providing insights into their performance in reading, writing, and math. These reports help students identify areas for improvement and connect them to free resources offered by the College Board.
The College Board’s Big Future platform offers a scholarship search tool, college search tool, and career search tool, helping students plan their future education and career paths based on their interests and skills demonstrated in the PSAT NMSQT.
The PSAT NMSQT is designed to mirror the SAT, allowing students to familiarize themselves with the test format and question types in a lower-stress environment. This preparation is supported by free practice resources, including the Blue Book app and Khan Academy.
Rodriguez encourages students and families to view the PSAT NMSQT as an opportunity for exploration and growth, providing valuable insights and resources to aid in college and career planning.
The PSAT NMSQT not only serves as a stepping stone to the SAT but also opens doors to significant scholarship opportunities and aids in academic and career planning for high school students.
