Indiana high school students who earn Honor Plus Enrollment Seals will now be guaranteed admission to Purdue, the university announced on Wednesday.
Provost Patrick Wolfe said the criteria for the seal ensures students are up to the challenge Purdue presents.
“Our state’s new Honors Plus diploma assures the rigor required to succeed in Purdue’s competitive application process,” he said, “and helps prepare students to excel at Purdue.”
Among other requirements, students must complete at least 75 hours of “work-based learning,” to earn the honor seal, according to the Indiana state government website. They will also still have to meet other basic admission criteria, including minimum standardized test scores.
The announcement coincides with the implementation of Indiana’s new high school diploma requirements, which will replace the current “Core 40” framework. The changes were signed into law Wednesday.
Purdue is “taking a leading role in the new initiative,” the university announced, but the seal does not only help prospective Boilers.
Mike Braun said Wednesday that those who receive the seal will also be granted admission to Indiana’s other public universities, such as Indiana University and Ball State University.
