Over the past two weeks, a list of Quad-Cities area students earned scholarships from community agencies and their respective schools. 
In a surprise announcement on Tuesday, Davenport Central High School senior Samuel Bevans was presented with the 2024 Kathryn Bell Tate Scholarship.
This annual, $20,000 scholarship is awarded to one Davenport high school senior via the Davenport Schools Foundation. The money is disbursed over a four-year period of undergraduate studies and can be used at any accredited college or university.
Come fall, Bevans plans to study aerospace engineering at Iowa State University with goals to engineer for NASA. 
Central also awarded eight students with annual Hall of Honor scholarships on Thursday, April 25.
Each of these scholarships are valued at $1,500, given to students who meet high academic and community standards.
The 2024 recipients are as follows: 
Additionally, students Grace Brandt, Hannah Cousins and Jack Stremlow earned the “Fisher At-Large” scholarship. 
This past weekend, Midwest Technical Institute awarded Geneseo High School senior Lonnie Catour with a $10,000 scholarship to continue his education in MTI’s HVAC/R Technician Program.
The award was presented on Sunday, April 28 at the Sunrise Café in Geneseo. 
According to a Midwest Technical Institute press release, Catour was inspired to pursue this pathway by his father — who worked in John Deere’s HVAC division — and a desire to help people. 
The local scholarship season will continue well into the summer. 
The League of United Latin American Citizens is hosting its annual Scholarships Awards Banquet at 4 p.m. on Sunday, July 28. 
This year, 29 scholarships — totaling $30,000 — will be presented, and the banquet will be held at the Davenport LULAC (Council 10) Center on 4224 Ricker Hill Road. 
To date, LULAC has awarded more than $780,000 in scholarships to over 1,200 area students.
