QUINCY — The Quincy Breakfast Kiwanis Club recently awarded two scholarships to local graduating seniors — one from Quincy Notre Dame and one from Quincy High School who meet the formal requirements. Each applicant must be a graduating senior attending either Quincy Notre Dame High School or Quincy High School and have been a Key Club member for at least two years.
The awardees for the 2024-25 school year were Leah Mast from Quincy Notre Dame and Paxton Smith from Quincy High School.
Mast, a daughter of Brent and Jacqueline Mast, plans on attending Iowa State University. Smith, daughter of Tina and the late Eric Smith, plans to attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
The $1,000 scholarships are awarded to assist with collegiate expenses for the 2024-25 school year.
Special attention is given to each student’s level of involvement in the community through volunteering and impact. Applicants must also write an essay about his/her most exciting Key Club community service project or achievement and include the project/achievement description and purpose, how many other volunteers, if any, worked with them on the project, what they learned, how they benefited from the experience and what kind of community service they plam to do at college and later in life.
“Through the hard work of the Quincy Breakfast Kiwanis Club, we are honored to provide these two deserving Key Club students with scholarships; and we wish them the very best in their academic growth at the collegiate level,” Dan Conboy, president of the Gem City Kiwanis Club, said in a press release. “Getting our youth involved in community service through our local Key Clubs is a terrific start in hopes they find the experience of making a difference as rewarding as we do.”
