The Rancho Mirage Writers Festival continues to inspire the next generation of writers through scholarships and generous book donations to local schools. Each year, the festival awards scholarships to dozens of students, allowing them to learn from some of the world’s most accomplished storytellers. This year, over 80 students from local schools had the unique opportunity to attend the event, engaging directly with celebrated authors and literary experts.
Executive Director Aaron Espinosa highlights the impact of these scholarships, noting that they provide students with a chance to connect with mentors who can guide them on their writing journey. Students like Madison, a sophomore at Arizona State University’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism, expressed excitement about learning from some of the literary world’s finest. “There’s a lot of important people here, and I’d love to get to know them, figure out what led them to where they are now,” she said.
In addition to the scholarships, the festival has donated thousands of books to schools throughout the Coachella Valley. This effort has had a profound effect on students, with educators and learners alike praising the program for fueling a deeper passion for reading and writing. One student shared how they were inspired by author Kristin Hannah’s advice on perseverance in writing. With this ongoing initiative, the Rancho Mirage Writers Festival is undoubtedly shaping the literary future of young minds in the region.
