Strong community support has helped Red Deer Polytechnic raise $80,000 recently at their annual Golf Classic for student-athlete scholarships.
The tournament held Aug. 25 at the Red Deer Golf and Country Club, brought together community members, partners, sponsors and employees to help RDP Kings and Queens student athletes.
“We are grateful for the community support of the Kings and Queens as they pursue post-secondary education,” said Patrick Machacek, Vice President, Development and Partnerships for RDP, in a media release. “Through enhanced education, training and applied research opportunities, RDP prepares students for rewarding careers that help address the needs of industry.”
They were able to put on the event through volunteers, including 40 RDP staff members and 50 student athletes who volunteered their time to ensure the tournament ran smoothly.
This academic year, over 190 student-athletes will compete across 19 teams in 10 sports.
“The money raised at the 2025 Golf Classic will have a lasting impact,” said Randy Stewart, Manager, Athletics and Student Life, Red Deer Polytechnic. “These funds will help alleviate financial constraints for our student-athletes, so they can concentrate on pursuing excellence in the classroom, during competition and as ambassadors in the community.”
