Recipients of 2025 Bill White Scholarships are announced – Greensboro News and Record

Three members of Grimsley’s 2025 conference championship baseball team are among the 11 chosen recipients of the annual Bill White Scholarship this year.
The 11 recipients will get their awards between evening games of the Colt Zone East Tournament on July 23 at Stoner-White Stadium in Greensboro’s Jaycee Park. White’s granddaughter, Courtney Lowrance, and Bobby Dawson, the scholarship’s first recipient in 1981, will present the checks and plaques.
The scholarships are given to former Colt League baseball players entering a college or university who fit criteria of academic excellence, exemplary citizenship and financial need. White founded Colt Baseball in 1965, and the scholarship in his name was established in 1980, the year that he died of cancer.
This year’s recipients include two of Grimsley’s key pitchers from a team that this year finished 23-5 and won both the regular season and the Metro 4A Conference tournament championship. Jacob Benbow, the Conference Pitcher of the Year, went 10-0 with an 0.85 ERA, and Clay Rosser, another all-conference pick, went 6-2 with a 1.60 ERA. Rosser allowed just one hit in five innings to earn the decision and had a three-run double against Ragsdale in the conference tournament finals.
Holden Barnwell had a .931 fielding percentage for the Whirlies and batted .236 in 27 games played this season.
Nate Revis, a two-way standout for Rockingham County, hit .416 with 25 RBIs on the season and finished his career as the county’s career runs leader with 106 scored. As a pitcher, he went 8-0 with a 1.63 ERA.
Luis Sanchez, another selection, batted .355 for Northeast Guilford this season,
The recipients, with high school and intended college or university, are as follows:
Holden Barnwell, Grimsley, NC State; Jacob Benbow, Grimsley, Robeson Community College; Luke Johnson, Chatham Charter, Mid-Atlantic Christian College; Mark King, Southern Alamance, Greensboro College; Isaac Marley, Southern Guilford, GTCC; Nathan Moore, Page, North Carolina A&T; Nate Revis, Rockingham County, NC State; Jackson Rippy, Western Alamance, Elon; Clay Rosser, Grimsley, North Carolina; Luis Sanchez, Northeast Guilford, GTCC; Joshua Smith, Bartlett Yancey, Belmont Abbey.
