RENO, Nev. (May 16, 2025) — Northern Nevada students planning on attending college next fall received some help thanks to a generous allocation from The Reno Rodeo Foundation Scholarship Committee. A total of $160,000 in scholarships were presented to 25 outstanding students through proceeds from “The Rodeo State” license plate initiative, alongside the support of generous donors.
The annual scholarships are open to Northern Nevada high school graduates or college students who intend to enroll in higher education at an accredited Nevada college, university or trade school, or at an out-of-state college, university or trade school if the declared major is not offered in Nevada. Additional consideration is given to applicants participating in one or more of the following: 4H, FFA, Grange or Rodeo. Furthermore, anyone who has been in foster care in Northern Nevada receives additional consideration.
The following recipients were awarded the Al Evans Silver Spurs Scholarship and Phyllis & Howard Weiss Scholarship for students with declared majors in either Veterinary or Pre-Veterinary degrees:
The following recipient was awarded the first-ever Tom Dolan Scholarship, established in memory of Tom Dolan’s dedication to the community, for students with declared majors in Business or related fields:
The following recipient was awarded the first-ever Guy Clifton Scholarship, created to recognize the lasting impact of Nevada journalist Guy Clifton, for students with declared majors in Journalism or related fields:

Since 1986, the Reno Rodeo Foundation has been dedicated to fostering educational opportunities for high school graduates across Northern Nevada. Over the years, the foundation’s efforts have empowered countless students to pursue higher education. 2026 scholarship applications will open in October.
