The Lee County Retired School Personnel are pleased to award $500 scholarships to three graduating Lee County seniors. To qualify, applicants are required to pursue the field of teaching or another educational related area.
Kailynne Holmes is the daughter of Alice and James Holmes of Keokuk. She is inspired by many teachers and peers to major in art education and will be attending Culver-Stockton College.
Kailynne feels youth coming from broken homes and being around toxic people too often stifle their aspirations. Her ambition is to support youth by developing their talents in a nonjudgmental environment. Kailynne wants to help young minds reach their creative potential as a high school art teacher.
Harlie Hill is the daughter of Tiffany and Jason Hill of Keokuk. She chooses to pursue an Elementary Education major with a Reading Endorsement, while attending Waldorf University.
Harlie desires to be an educator who inspires students to have growth mindsets, problem-solving skills and a strong sense of self-worth. She feels it is crucial for students to develop a love of learning to acquire the foundational skills needed to prosper in life.
Isabella Rooney is the daughter of Erinn and Mike Rooney of Montrose. She plans to major in Early Childhood Education while attending Southeastern Community College and later transferring to the University of Northern Iowa.
As an Elementary Teacher, Isabella wants her students to become sociable individuals, despite all the exposure to electronics in today’s society. She feels it’s important for teachers to know students not only in the classroom, but in extracurricular activities. In addition, she would like to provide after school programs to help students with parents who have extended work schedules. Isabella aspires to insure a safe atmosphere for educating our youth.
