It is time for graduating high school seniors to think about applying for scholarships to help with tuition for their future educations.
The Fairbanks Retired Teachers’ Association plans to award at least three $3,000 (up from $2,500) scholarships to students graduating in 2025 from the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District. Hard copy applications must be mailed to FRTA/Judy Rae Smith, P.O. Box 81071, Fairbanks, AK 99708. The closing date is March 15. Applications are available at akfrta.yourwebsitespace.com/packets or at school counselor offices.
Alaska Community Foundation
Alaska Community Foundation Scholarships opened Jan. 15 and close March 15.
Two $5,000 Don DeWitt scholarships are available through the Alaska Community Foundation for graduating FNSBSD public high school students in 2025 who are not in the top 10 percentile of their class. Only online applications are accepted for this scholarship. The application is online at alaskacf.org/scholarships.
In 2024, the Alaska Community Foundation began using a universal application so that every applicant will be considered for all scholarships they qualify for. Individual applications for each scholarship are no longer necessary. The 53 different scholarships available include Indigenous groups, career selections, residence and more.
