MILWAUKIE Ore. (KPTV) – Hayden Gonzales, a senior at Rex Putnam High School, plays professionally in the American Cornhole League and has secured a scholarship at Winthrop University in South Carolina.
Gonzales started playing cornhole during COVID-19 quarantine.
“So, my dad was at tournaments and then right after quarantine ended, I just kept playing and then I started going to tournaments and I started winning and then I started traveling nationally and then I knew I could compete with the best so then I started making money and kept pushing it on,” Gonzales said.
South Carolina is a long way from Milwaukie, but Gonzales has been there before for tournaments.
“I think after college, I would definitely like it to be my job and keep playing for however long,” he said. “I love it. It’s the dream.”
