The Rhode Island Foundation has announced that $4 million in scholarships are available to students in Rhode Island who are pursuing higher education. The funds can be used to cover the cost of tuition, fees, and books.

The scholarships are being made available by dozens of individual and organizational donors. One of the largest scholarships, the Rhode Island PBS Foundation Scholarship, supports students who are pursuing journalism or communications. The scholarship provides up to $60,000 over four years. Other scholarships are available for students from specific majors such as nursing, filmmaking, and the arts. In addition, there is a scholarship for students who are the first in their family to go to college and the Black Philanthropy B Asantever Fund which supports students of color.
“These scholarships can make dreams come true for the students who get help and the donors who made it possible. The results of their generosity will be felt for years as these young people make their marks in their careers and on their communities,” said David N. Cicilline, the Foundation’s president and CEO.
Students must be Rhode Island residents pursuing higher education to be eligible for the scholarships. The deadline to apply is April 15. More information can be found here.
