Jordin Watkins, a Richmond Hill High School alum and current first-year student at Savannah Tech, first started working at Richmond Hill’s 5 Spot location since its opening in January 2024.Ā Ā
His hard work over the past year has helped him earn 5 Spot’s inaugural Serving Success scholarship, aimed for employees seeking career advancement in hospitality and related industries. The scholarship totals $2,000 to go towards books, tuition and related expenses.Ā
ā€œIt means a lot to get the award,ā€ said Watkins. ā€œIt helped me finish off paying my tuition [this semester], helping me spend a bit more on textbooks and things like that.ā€
Watkins is currently studying Hospitality and Restaurant Tourism, and says that his long-term dreams include opening his own restaurants in the Coastal Georgia area.Ā Ā
The Serving Success scholarship is funded by sales from 5 Spot’s fried pickle appetizer plate; $1 from each plate sold go towards the fund.Ā
ā€œAt The 5 Spot, we believe in serving more than just food—we believe in serving opportunity,ā€ said Brian Huskey, owner of GLGSAV, the parent company of The 5 Spot restaurants. ā€œJordin’s story is exactly why we launched this scholarship: to help our team members turn their passion into a lifelong career. Every fried pickle sold is more than an appetizer—it’s an investment in our people and our community.ā€
The 5 Spot Richmond Hill is located at 3742 US-17 and is open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mon.-Fri. and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays..
