The Rotary Club of Riverhead awarded scholarships totaling $105,500 to 15 college-bound Riverhead High School graduating seniors this year.
The Rotary club scholarships are awarded based on the students’ academic achievement, community service and other leadership qualities, as well as an essay on what “Service Above Self,” Rotary International’s motto means to them and how they exemplify it.
The 15 winners were chosen from a pool of 42 applicants, said Riverhead Rotary board member and spokesperson Elizabeth Hanlon.
“It is a very impressive group of young  scholars,” Hanlon said.
Riverhead Rotary since 2013 has awarded scholarships totaling $750,000 to deserving high school student, the club’s scholarship committee chairperson Annmarie Zilnicki said.
The club hosted the scholarship recipients for a recognition ceremony at its July 9 scholarship luncheon at the Sea Star ballroom.

Riverhead Rotary’s major scholarship fundraiser, the annual W. Bruce Stark Memorial Golf Outing, is coming up on Monday, Sept. 15 at The Rock in Wading River. More information will be posted on the Riverhead Rotary Club’s website, RiverheadRotary.org.
