CRESTON — The Riverview Community Center is proud to announce the first recipients of the newly established Riverview Community Center Scholarship. Five Ashe County residents have each been awarded a $1,000 scholarship to support their pursuit of higher education, workforce training, or trade certification.
This scholarship was created to reflect Riverview’s mission to invest in the future of Ashe County by supporting individuals—young and old—on their educational and professional journeys.
The 2025 Riverview Community Scholarship recipients are:
Unlike many traditional scholarships, the Riverview Community Center Scholarship was designed to include non-traditional students, such as adult learners, parents returning to school, and individuals retraining for a new career. The scholarship committee aimed to meet applicants where they are in life, recognizing that ambition and dedication don’t follow a single path.
Located at 11719 NC Highway 88 West in Creston, the Riverview Community Center continues to thrive as a hub for local support, programs and resilience. With the help of dedicated volunteers following the devastation of Hurricane Helene, the building is open and available to the community. Today, it houses a vibrant thrift store, Pam’s Hair Salon, regular food distributions through Ashe Outreach Ministries, and the beloved Fish Fry—held the first and third Friday of each month from 4-7 p.m.
The Riverview Community Center Scholarship is the latest example of how the center is investing in the next generation—and in the future of Ashe County.
