From both an athletic and academic standpoint, it’s hard to imagine a more qualified candidate than Katie Ziliani to receive a scholarship at this year’s Trenton Softball Hall of Fame’s banquet on April 28.
One of the six scholarship winners, Ziliani has excelled both on the field and in the classroom at Robbinsville High School. Following her graduation in June, she will attend the University of South Carolina.
A crafty right handed pitcher with good heat and an effective change up, Ziliani has been a four-year member of the Robbinsville varsity softball team, including the one that captured a Group II state championship in 2021.
She is off to another strong start this year with 19 strikeouts and only two runs allowed in 19 innings of work following a shutout against North Hunterdon on Monday.
Ziliani has received all-Colonial Valley Conference and All-Area recognition in The Trentonian and has also enjoyed a lot of success in travel softball for teams such as the New Jersey Outlaws after getting her start in the Robbinsville Little League. In addition, she has played both basketball and soccer on various levels.
She was also a four-year member of the Robbinsville varsity field hockey team and was named to an all-CVC team in that sport. Coupled with her accomplishments in the class room, Ziliani was named by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association as its High School Scholar of Distinction in 2003 and was also named to its National Academic squad.
Ziliani has a GPA of 4.285 on a 4.0 scale and has received an A or A+ in every course she has taken at the school.
At the University of South Carolina, Ziliani wants so study exercise science and her career plans included opening her own physical therapy clinic.
Six high school athletes who play either softball or baseball will each receive $4,000 scholarships. In addition the Frank Garzio scholarship for $3,000 and the Tom Devito scholarship for $1,500 will also be awarded.
The scholarship winners who play softball are Rylee Michalak of Notre Dame as well as Robbinsville’s Sorella Gallucci, Ziliani and Haley Krebs. Baseball players receiving scholarships are Lawrence’s Kellen Moore and Notre Dame’s Justin Prekop.
