Rochester, N.Y. — The Rochester Association of Black Journalists has awarded the Wyoma Best Scholarship to Adriana Morales, a local high school student.
Morales, who is set to graduate next month from Monroe High School, received the $500 scholarship.
The scholarship, named in honor of Wyoma Best, the first Black woman TV reporter in Rochester, is awarded to a graduating high school student who plans to study journalism or a related field in college.
Morales expressed her gratitude for the scholarship, saying, "I mainly want to go into journalism because I feel like my voice needs to be heard. I feel like coming from the RCSD, a lot of kids have a lot to say and I just feel like I could be an inspiration to other kids in getting my voice out there."
This fall, Morales will attend Temple University, where she plans to major in sports media.
