BROOKINGS, South Dakota — For the third consecutive year, South Dakota State University electrical engineering students Kalen Meyer and Luke Rasmussen, both of Rock Rapids, Iowa, earned Power and Energy Society scholarships from the International Order of Electrical and Electronics Engineers for the current school year. Each will receive $3,000.
Meyer, a senior, is the son of Sid and Tana Meyer of Rock Rapids and a 2021 graduate of Central Lyon High School. He holds a 3.93 GPA.

At SDSU, he competed on the wrestling team for three years and won the SDSU Wrestling Academic Award in 2023. He is a member of the honor societies of Tau Beta Pi (all engineering disciplines) and Eta Kappa Nu (for electrical engineers). A member of the IEEE chapter, he was named Sophomore of the Year and is currently its president.
Last summer, Meyer interned for the fourth time in DGR Engineering’s electrical department in Rock Rapids. His responsibilities included creating protection and control drawing packages and overseeing substation service and transformer fan modifications. He plans to find a career in the power and energy system field.
Rasmussen, a senior, is the son of Chad and Ginger Rasmussen of Rock Rapids and a 2021 graduate of Central Lyon High School. He holds a 3.88 GPA. At SDSU he has been an officer in Tau Beta Pi, the Robotics Club and the student branch of IEEE. He is also a member of Eta Kappa Nu, the international honor society of IEEE.
Rasmussen has interned in the electrical department at DGR Engineering the past three summers. Last summer he primarily worked on protection and controls design for substations. He plans a career in the power industry.
