ROCKWALL, TX (May 12, 2025) Three Rockwall ISD seniors have been recognized for their commitment to education with scholarships through the district’s “Grow Your Own” initiative, a partnership between the Dr. Gene Burton College & Career Academy (GBCCA), Rockwall Education Foundation (REF), and ROCK after-school program.
Alexis Crispin from Rockwall High School, and Judith Zavala and Jocelyn Taurone from Rockwall-Heath High School were each awarded a $300 scholarship by REF Executive Director Ashlei Neill in recognition of their dedication to pursuing careers in education. All three students have completed the Education Practicum class and internship, worked for ROCK, and have declared their intent to major in education in college.
What sets this program apart is its long-term investment in homegrown talent. Upon graduating from college and receiving a job offer from Rockwall ISD, each student will also receive a $1,000 signing bonus if they return to teach in the district.
This effort is part of Rockwall ISD’s commitment to cultivating future educators from within the community, ensuring students return not just with degrees but with a passion for giving back to the district that helped shape them.
“We’re incredibly proud of these students and excited to see them return as teachers in the years to come,” said Karen Hunter, Director of ROCK.
