The Rotary Club of East Jordan recently awarded $136,900 in scholarships to seven East Jordan High School graduates.
The scholarships, among the largest in the club’s history, support students pursuing postsecondary education, according to a club announcement.
“These students have shown not only academic excellence, but also leadership, service and determination,” said Jennifer Burr, president of the Rotary Club of East Jordan, in the announcement. “We are proud to play a part in helping them achieve their higher education goals and build bright futures.”
The club holds three scholarship funds administered through the Charlevoix County Community Foundation: the East Jordan Rotary Club Academic & Leadership Scholarship Fund, the East Jordan Rotary Opportunity Scholarship Fund and the East Jordan Rotary Vocational Education Scholarship Fund.
The recipients — Arlo Knauf, Brielle Sutton, Emma Speer, Gabrielle Hamilton, Lillian Curtis, Rachael Hanson and Ryder Malpass — will attend colleges, universities and technical schools across the state and beyond.
Funding for the scholarships comes from club members, the East Jordan community, local businesses and proceeds from the club’s annual fundraisers.
The Rotary Club of East Jordan meets at 12:15 p.m. the first Tuesday of the month and at 5:15 p.m. the third Wednesday of the month at the Friends of the Jordan River Watershed building. The club welcomes guests interested in learning more about its community service work, youth programs and international initiatives.
