The Rotary Club of Leesburg last week continued its tradition of annually providing $15,000 Perry Winston scholarships, paid over four years, to three Leesburg high school students.Ā
The scholarship, named after a longtime Leesburg resident and Rotarian, began in 1985. It is awarded to eligible students after they complete an application, write an essay and meet with the Leesburg Rotary Scholarship committee.
This year’s winners were Samantha Tinta from Loudoun County High School who will be going to William and Mary to study pre-law; Paola Soto from Heritage High School who will be pursuing a degree in finance at Virginia Tech; and Easton Svir, from Tuscarora High School who will be attending the University of Colorado in Boulder to study engineering as well as joining its ROTC program.Ā
They were selected from a pool of nearly 20 applicants. The winners will have a Rotary mentor who will follow their college career.Ā
The club’s fundraising efforts and events help generate the revenue to support and award the scholarships.
