The Rotary Club of Cambridge held its annual scholarship luncheon, where they introduced six Dorchester County graduating seniors selected to receive a scholarship. Rotarian Michael Wheatley, representing the Cambridge Rotary Scholarship Committee, emceed the meeting.
After reading a brief biography of each recipient, he invited a school representative to speak about each student. The scholarship winners were brought forward and given time to say a few words.
Jerome Stover, Cambridge South Dorchester High School principal, presented Tyler Sears, one of the school’s students, who will receive a four-year scholarship. He provided the Rotarians with additional information including Sears’ position as president of the CSDHS Interact Club.
Stover, also, spoke about scholarship recipients Tekai Drummond and Camryn Russum, who were unable to attend the luncheon. Both were participating in the Maryland State Track meet. Drummond received a four-year award, while Russum was selected as the Technical Scholar and will get a one-year scholarship.
The final three Rotary scholarship winners were from North Dorchester High School. Senior Counselor Tyneika Young introduced Emily Freeman, Maddie Tobat and Katelyn Hopkins. All the students thanked the Rotarians and spoke a little about their future plans.
