The Rotary Club of Steubenville presented its Service Above Self scholarships to area high school students April 16. Interested students submitted an application displaying their community and school activities, and wrote an essay regarding how they provide Service Above Self within their daily lives. Committee members selected the awards based on the students’ essays. The Rotary Club, in partnership with the IBEW Local 246, held a golf tournament to provide funding for the scholarships, along with a grant from Rotary District 6650. Alan Hall, Barry Gullen, Michael Mehalik, Chairman Charles Joyce and Kathy Musso, served on the Scholarship Committee. Those taking part in the ceremony included, from left, front, Zachary Kuntz, Edison High School; Gordana Vein, Steubenville High School; Aubrey Duggan, Steubenville High School; Addison Erwin, Buckeye Local High School; Shane Griffith, Buckeye Local School District; and Andrew Rohde, Catholic Central High School; and back, Hall, Gullen, Christina Frey, Rotary Club President Richard Delatore and Mehalik. Frey was a scholarship recipient during the late ’60s, attended West Liberty University and graduated with a degree in education. She taught for Pleasant Hill Elementary School in the Edison Local School District throughout her career.
