River Parishes Community College Foundation on Feb. 4 received a $50,000 donation from Methanex Corporation to support workforce education, strengthening opportunities for students pursuing high-demand careers.
The donation includes $40,000 in permanent investments to establish endowed two-year workforce scholarships, ensuring long-term financial support for students enrolled in process technology, instrumentation and electrical, industrial maintenance, welding and other related fields.
In addition, $10,000 in scholarship funding is available to assist students enrolling in the 2024-2025 academic year. These scholarships will help alleviate financial barriers, empowering students to complete their training and enter the workforce prepared for success, a news release said.
“This investment in our students is an investment in the future of Louisiana,” said Tarie Roberson, executive director of the RPCC Foundation. “With these scholarships, we are not only providing immediate support but also securing long-term resources for generations of students to come.”
Workforce programs at RPCC play a critical role in preparing skilled professionals for Louisiana’s growing industrial sectors. By expanding scholarship opportunities, the college continues to strengthen its mission of providing accessible, high-quality education that meets the needs of both students and industry partners, the release said.
“This scholarship endowment reflects our commitment to creating positive and sustainable impacts in the communities where we operate,” said Rawle Ramlochan, managing director, Methanex Geismar.
