The River Parishes Community College Foundation received a $50,000 donation from Methanex Corporation to support workforce education.
The donation includes $40,000 in permanent investments to establish endowed two-year workforce scholarships, ensuring long-term financial support for students enrolled in Process Technology, Instrumentation and Electrical, Industrial Maintenance, Welding and other related fields, according to an RPCC news release.
Additionally, $10,000 in funding will be available to assist students enrolling in the 2024-2025 academic year.
“This investment in our students is an investment in the future of Louisiana” Tarie Roberson, executive director of the RPCC Foundation, said in the release. “With these scholarships, we are not only providing immediate support but also securing long-term resources for generations of students to come.”
RPCC’s workforce programs are geared toward preparing skilled professionals for the industrial sectors.
“This scholarship endowment reflects our commitment to creating positive and sustainable impacts in the communities where we operate,” Rawle Ramlochan, managing director for Methanex Geismar, said in the release. “We believe that access to quality education and workforce training strengthens both individuals and the broader industry. We are proud to partner with RPCC to help local students gain the skills needed for rewarding careers in industry.”
