Five $200 scholarships were presented to area youths through the National Ruritan Build Your $ Scholarship Fund. Buckeye Ruritans presented each recipient with a certificate and invited them to attend the group’s monthly meeting. From top left, clockwise: Grace Browning received the scholarship last year and reapplied this year. She graduated from Edison High School and is attending Ohio State University. Those taking part in awarding her the scholarship included, from left, Treasurer Tammy Yanssens, charter member and Browning’s grandfather, John Wetherell; Browning and President Brian Yanssens. Shayleigh Hornyak received a Ruritan scholarship last year to attend Bethany College. She graduated from Buckeye Local and reapplied for a scholarship this year. She was presented the award by her grandfather, Don Brannon, a long-term Ruritan. Other recipients included, New Alexandria resident Dayne Carter, a graduate of Buckeye Local, is attending the University of Cincinnati. Rayland resident Lindsey Best graduated from Martins Ferry and will attend Bethany College. Brilliant resident Tatum Walker, a Buckeye Local graduate who will attend Ohio University Eastern.
