RICHMOND — The Steubenville Saddle Club awarded first-time scholarships to two area recipients during its July 27 horse show. The show was held on club grounds, located at 8675 state Route 152 N. in Richmond. The $500 scholarships were presented in memory of Jack Carroll, a long-time club member.
The inaugural recipients included Lindsey Best, a graduate of Martins Ferry High School, and Savannah Springer, a graduate of Union Local High School.
The students were selected for the scholarships based on academic achievement, community involvement and a written essay discussing their future goals.
The scholarships support students who enrolled in college or trade school for the 2025-26 academic year.
During the award presentation, club members and supporters were in attendance, as scholarships were presented by Club President Zach Murray and Vice President John Carroll, son of Jack Carroll.
The Steubenville Saddle Club is a nonprofit organization focused on promoting horsemanship, sportsmanship and youth development in the Ohio Valley.
The club hosts annual horse shows and events, launching its scholarship program this year to give back to the community, as well as to honor Jack Carroll’s legacy.
The SSC plans to continue the scholarship tradition in future years, according to officials.
The club, which marked its 75th anniversary in 2022, will hold its final show of the 2025 season at 9 a.m. Sept. 7.
