SAGINAW, Mich. — Hundreds of students were celebrated for their achievements and awarded scholarship money at the Excellence in Education event held at the Horizons Conference Center in Saginaw.
The Saginaw Community Foundation distributed more than $1.7 million in scholarships to over 500 students.
Renee' Johnston, president of the Saginaw Community Foundation, emphasized the importance of students understanding the significance behind the scholarships they receive.
"I believe that it's so important that students understand the people that are behind the money that they're receiving as a scholarship right. I mean a lot of people yes they get told they're getting a scholarship and they know it's going to help out with college but to know that in a lot of cases there's a deeper meaning behind that scholarship," said Johnston.
The Saginaw Community Foundation currently manages 255 scholarship funds and has awarded more than $12 million to students since its inception in 1987.
