SALEM, MA — The city of Salem will award two $1,000 scholarships to Witch City graduating high school seniors intending to pursue a career focused on environmental sustainability.
Mayor Dominick Pangallo and the city of Salem, in partnership with Waste Management (the city’s solid waste and recycling service provider), said the “For a More Sustainable Tomorrow” scholarships will go to students planning to study for careers in environmental science, or careers in other fields such as education, engineering or law so long as there is a specific environmental focus.
“In Salem, education of our students is a community mission,” Pangallo said. “I am grateful to the members of our staff and to Waste Management for making this opportunity available to help Salem residents, particularly those working toward careers that will sustain our environment, pursue higher education.
“I encourage Salem residents who qualify to apply for this scholarship.”
Applications are due by May 31 and should be sent via email to Alisa Cherkasova at acherkasova@salem.com.
The application form (attached to this press release) is available on the city of Salem’s website.
