Telling the Whole Story of Ashland County
ASHLAND — The Samaritan Hospital Foundation is pleased to again offer scholastic awards to local graduates residing in Ashland County, UH Samaritan Medical Center employees and their immediate family members.
To be eligible, applicants must be currently enrolled or accepted in an accredited program in the areas of nursing, medicine, or allied medical studies.
This year, Samaritan Hospital Foundation (SHF) once again increased its support for the next generation of nursing and allied medical students by increasing total grants to the highest amount to date, reaching $103,000 in scholastic awards supporting thirty-nine local students.
The Foundation gave several different types of awards this year. The Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Scholastic Award was awarded to Tiffany Callahan; the Gounder & Ponnammal Scholastic Award went to Alayna Furr; the Elizabeth Myers Mitchell Scholastic Award went to Cody Luke and Ramey Adkins; and the Alice E Stinchcomb Award was given to Allison Kandel.
The Nancy J. Stockwell Scholastic Award is helping five students with their education this year: Tiffany Callahan, Anthony Baumann, Alison Barr, Amanda Finger, and Alexis Starner.
The SHF North Central State College Scholastic Award went to three deserving students: Miranda Porter, Marissa Porter, and Summer Pressley. The SHF Ashland County West Holmes Career Center Health Technology Award was given to Kylie Snively. The SHF Presidential Scholastic Award was awarded to Elysia Zehner.

2nd Place: Good Shepherd Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center – Joe Abraham, Ev DeVaul, Casey Barone, Klaira Paramore

Proceeds from this year’s event benefitted the following organizations that provide health and wellness to the Ashland community:
University Hospitals Samaritan Medical Center will receive funds raised through the golf outing for a new Glidescope for the Emergency Department. The Glidescope, which is used to establish an airway for patients with respiratory failure, contains a camera that helps the physician visualize the patient’s airway for easier intubation.
University Hospitals Samaritan Medical Center’s Rehab Department will receive funds to upgrade their Aquatic therapy environment for pain relief, making it easier for patients to navigate the area.
And thanks to the funds raised at the golf outing, the Ashland Fire Department is able to purchase a Power Stair Chair, which is a powered chair to assist EMTs with moving a patient who can’t lie down or the egress is too narrow to allow for the movement up or down steps with their normal cot.
