Nearly three dozen high school students from San Patricio County recently received scholarships from an area nonprofit organization.
On May 15, the San Patricio County Area Go Texan foundation honored 34 students from Gregory-Portland, Sinton, Odem, Mathis, Taft, and Ingleside high schools with scholarships during the organization’s annual ceremony.
In total, the students received a total of $60,000 in scholarships to traditional and technical colleges, according to the organization. To qualify for a scholarship, students must be a graduating senior who is in the top third of the graduating class at the completion of the first semester of their senior year (traditional scholarship) or the top half of the graduating class (technical scholarships). They must also have applied to enroll or enrolled with intent to attend an accredited, not-for-profit Texas college or university (accredited by The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges) and participate in a curriculum leading to a technical or bachelor’s degree.
