More than 60 San Patricio County students recently received scholarships from a regional community foundation that is aimed at helping students pay for a college education in their chosen field.
On June 28, the Coastal Bend Community Foundation hosted its annual Scholarship Brunch at NorthShore Country Club in Portland. The annual event is meant to honor the recipients of CBCF scholarships for the 2025-26 academic year
CBCF awarded a total of $629,070 in scholarships to a combined 264 students across its seven-county service area, which includes Aransas, Bee, Jim Wells, Kleberg, Nueces, Refugio, and San Patricio counties. Recipients included a total of 62 high school students from San Patricio County schools including Gregory-Portland High School, Mathis High School, Sinton High School, and Taft High School.
One such student was Sinton High School’s Braxley Brezina, who received the Jim Flinn Memorial Scholarship. Brezina plans to major in Agricultural Business when she goes to college.
“It was really nice getting to meet the family and make a connection with them,” Brezina said of meeting the donors. “Moving forward with my education, this scholarship will give me the opportunity to pursue my dreams and get a degree.”
The CBCF gives out more than 100 scholarship funds each year benefitting graduating high school seniors and current college students. Students apply annually through a streamlined process, with a single application considered for more than 100 scholarship opportunities.
The organization said the brunch served as a meaningful reflection of CBCF’s mission to improve the quality of life in the Coastal Bend by connecting scholarship recipients, their families, and donors in a shared commitment to education and community advancement.
“One of the most rewarding things we do at the foundation is administer and award scholarships,” said Sarah Fisher, the CBCF’s Scholarship Committee Chair.
