Hicksville senior Austin Sanders (fourth from left) was one of eight winners of the Albright Gemlick Scholarship awarded by Parkview Sports Medicine on Tuesday at the Parkview Mirro Center in Fort Wayne, Ind. The $8,000 scholarship was awarded to student-athletes nominated by PSM athletic trainers assigned to the seniors’ schools and Sanders, who will attend the University of Akron in the fall, was one of eight winners among 55 nominees representing 32 high schools. Athletes eligible for the award must have participated in one sport in their senior year and hold at least a 3.2 GPA on a 4.0 scale. The other winners hailed from seven other Fort Wayne-area high schools (Snider, Concordia Lutheran, East Noble, Southwood, Belmont, Northfield and South Side).
