FAIRFIELD — Four Solano Community College students – Alexander Underwood, Jumari Dotson, Marcus Dukes and Darryl Johnson – have each been awarded a $25,000 scholarship as part of their acceptance into John Hope Bryant’s 1 Million Black Businesses program.
The scholarships are part of a competitive and prestigious national initiative that equips students with the tools needed to thrive as entrepreneurs. Award recipients will receive access to business development support, financial literacy coaching, credit-building strategies, entrepreneurial resources and mentorship from advisers.
These students are active members of Solano’s A²MEND and Students Overcoming Adversity & Recidivism programs, providing critical support and guidance for system-impacted and underrepresented students.
“This is a significant achievement not only for these students but for our entire college community,” Shanan Danley, A²MEND adviser, said in a press release. “Seeing them overcome adversity and earn such a transformative opportunity is a reminder of the impact our programs can have.”
The 1MBB program, founded by entrepreneur and philanthropist John Hope Bryant, aims to create one million Black-owned businesses by providing aspiring entrepreneurs with the tools and resources to succeed.
