Scholarship instituted in the name of Beaver County native and former bishop David Zubik – Beaver County Times
A scholarship has been started in the name of a Beaver County native and former Pittsburgh Catholic diocese bishop.
The Bishop David A. Zubik: Church Alive! Scholarship has been established to help students in Catholic high schools in the diocese excited about their faith to display it in exemplary ways.
Zubik, who grew up in Economy, attended elementary school at Ambridge’s St. Stanislaus and graduated from the borough’s St. Veronica High School, served as bishop from September 2008 until July 2025. He was also a teacher and administrator at the now-closed Quigley High School in Economy for nearly a decade.
Diocese officials said the scholarship is a tribute to how Zubik touched countless lives. “As a teacher, administrator and shepherd, he has helped to light the way for generations, igniting hearts with the joy of the Gospel and inspiring all with the belief that ‘Nothing is Impossible with God,’” a recent release from the diocese said.
The scholarship was established and founded through gifts of clergy and parishioners. To learn more about the scholarship or to donate, visit https://diopitt.org/bishopdavidazubikchurchalivescholarship.
