The Arkansas Democratic Black Caucus has established a scholarship to increase the number of underrepresented minority college students who want to enter a public service field.
The scholarship is named after Joyce Elliott for her 30 years as an educator and 22 years as a legislator, the Arkansas Democratic Black Caucus said.
A $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a full-time student during the King Kennedy Awards.
The applicant must be enrolled at one of the following Arkansas Historically Black Colleges and Universities: Arkansas Baptist College, Philander Smith College, Shorter College or the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.
Other requirements include:
Being an Arkansas resident with a minimum 2.5 GPA.
Having completed 24 credits towards an undergraduate degree.
