UTICA, N.Y. — Numerous scholarship opportunities are available for students in Oneida and Herkimer counties.
The application deadline for Utica Dollars for Scholars is approaching quickly, with a cut-off date of March 15.
Award recipients will be recognized at a ceremony in June at Mohawk Valley Community College.
For college students, scholarships are offered in various fields, including nursing, education, HVAC, culinary arts, pharmacy, math and science.
High school seniors can apply for The Mele scholarships, which are available to students from Adirondack, Camden, Central Valley Academy, Dolgeville, Herkimer, Little Falls, Owen D. Young, Poland, Remsen, Rome, Sauquoit, Utica-Proctor and Waterville.
The Mele Family Fund at the Community Foundation of Herkimer & Oneida Counties provides a renewable scholarship of $3,000 for up to four years of college.
In addition, there are various scholarships available for high school students as well.
Utica Dollars for Scholars is distributing approximately $168,000 in over 110 scholarships to school districts in the two counties.
Awards vary, starting at $1,000 and reaching renewable amounts exceeding $3,000.
Established locally in November 1994, Utica Dollars for Scholars has awarded nearly $3 million to almost 2,800 students at Thomas R. Proctor High School, Notre Dame Junior/Senior High School, and several other high schools.

The application process is managed by Scholarship America, the parent organization of Dollars for Scholars.
The online application requires a transcript, a reference, a goals and aspirations essay, as well as details about activities and employment.
All school counseling offices have information about the scholarships available to seniors and guidance on completing the online application, as noted by the organizers.
