Two students recently received scholarships from Johnson Memorial United Methodist Church in Huntington.
The Jeffrey C. Ohl Scholarship was presented to Thaddeus Stambaugh, who completed a degree in Media Studies at Mountwest Community and Technical College. He shared plans to transfer to Marshall University this fall to attain a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theater.
Stambaugh is a freelance set designer and is serving as the drama director at Ironton High School where he directed “The Addams Family Musical.” He’s also actively involved in disc golf and has organized and played in tournaments for various charities.
The recipient of the Tom and Marilyn Holleron Volunteer Service Scholarship is Brianna Bass, who said she always knew she wanted to go into a medical field where she could help people. She is a student at Marshall University and plans to graduate in May 2026, with a degree in sonongraphy with an OBGYN concentration.
Both Stambaugh and Bass are active in the music program at Johnson Memorial. They sing in the Sanctuary Choir and are in the Bell Choir.
WAVERLY, Ohio — Boyd County High School graduate Skylar Edison is the 2025 Rumpke Boyd County Landfill Scholarship winner. This scholarship awards $1,000 to a graduate in Boyd County, Kentucky, pursuing a two- or four-year degree at an accredited institution, including vocational/trade schools.
Winners are chosen based on their commitment to their academics, environmental stewardship and desire to serve the community. Edison announced intentions to attend Morehead State University and obtain a degree in environmental science. After completing her undergrad, she intends to become an environmental scientist.
She also participates in Girl Scouts, where she’s training to become a troop leader, mentoring younger scout members and strengthening her skills in problem-solving and teamwork.
“We’re proud to award this scholarship in support of aspiring environmental specialists like Skylar as they pursue their academic goals,” said Rumpke Regional Vice President Bill Youk in a news release.
