Scholarships and Financial Aid – UChicago Divinity School
Applicants to our Master’s programs (MA, AMRS, and MDiv) are considered for Divinity School Scholarships once the decision to offer admission has been reached. There is no separate scholarship application (simply select “yes” under “Financial Data” in the application when asked if you’d like to be considered). Scholarships are awarded based on the strength of your application materials. Select applicants may also be awarded a small living stipend. Scholarship notifications are included with the offer of admission.
All Divinity School Scholarships are renewable for each year of the academic program – 2 years for MA students and 3 years for MDiv students—subject to good academic progress. Divinity School Scholarships for AMRS students may be renewed for up to 3 years for students who complete the program on a part-time basis. Still, scholarship amounts are prorated when pursuing the degree less than full-time (3 courses per quarter). Additionally, students may also apply scholarship funding toward summer language study at the University.
Master’s applicants hoping to be considered for the full range of Divinity School scholarships should apply by the Priority Round deadline.
Students admitted to the PhD are offered a fellowship package that includes full tuition coverage, health insurance coverage for the student through the University Health Insurance Plan (U-SHIP), payment of the graduate student services fees, and an annual living stipend (more than $46,000 as of 2025-26). The doctoral student fellowship is renewed annually for the maximum registration period. There is no separate scholarship application process.
Students at all levels are encouraged to explore external funding sources to support their graduate education, research and travel needs, and professional development opportunities. UChicagoGRAD’s Fellowships Database is a great source of information to get you started. Many fellowship deadlines are early. Students should apply for fellowships while pursuing admission.
Admitted students may be eligible for federal student aid (student loans and work-study) to assist with educational costs. Students must complete and submit the FAFSA to be considered for eligibility. Our school code is 001774. Contact the Graduate Financial Aid Office for more information.
