Three local graduates will go off to college this fall with an extra $1,000, thanks to the Warren County Training School-North Warren High School Alumni & Friends Association, Inc.
These three outstanding young people will go on to make their mark on society and are expected to represent Warren County well.
The first recipient is Caleb Richardson. He is the son of Shelly and Wesley Richardson of the Bethlehem community. He is a graduate of Warren County High School with a grade point average of 3.9. This he accomplished while working at Food Lion, where he is highly praised for his work ethic and integrity by his supervisor.
He will be attending Halifax Community College majoring in Medical Laboratory Technology. He will be receiving the Rodney M. Downey Memorial Youth Trade and Technology Scholarship sponsored by Phillip and Marie Downey.
The second recipient is Gabriela Vela-Leos, the daughter of Nora Leos Lopez and Herberto Vela. She resides in Warrenton, where she has been active in her community. Gabriela has provided over 100 hours of sales and marketing for 1st Gen Roofing, and has interned for King Fitness and Nutrition Center.
Gabriela is a graduate of Warren Early College High School with a GPA of 3.8 and will be attending East Carolina University this fall. She will receive the Cheek-Washington Scholarship sponsored by the alumni association.
The final recipient is LeAndrea Daise, the daughter of Gabrielle Green of Warrenton. In her hometown, she has been active in Girl Scouts and is a junior firefighter for the Warrenton Rural Volunteer Fire Department. LeAndrea is a graduate of Henderson Collegiate High School with a GPA of 3.1, and has been very active in the band.
She will be attending Elizabeth City State University, majoring in Emergency Management. LeAndrea has already been accepted as a member of ECSU’s marching band and has been chosen to be the cymbal captain. She will receive the Rodney M. Downey Memorial Youth Trade and Technology Scholarship sponsored by Phillip and Marie Downey.
