The Rick Hansen Foundation is now accepting applications for youth with disabilities who want to pursue post-secondary education.
The foundation funds the Rick and Amanda Hansen Scholarship for Youth with Disabilities, which is providing financial support of up to $10,000 per year, for a maximum of $40,000, to students looking to continue their studies at a Canadian post-secondary institution for the 2025/2026 school year.
"Since first launching these scholarships last year, we have seen the positive impact they’re making in removing barriers to education and providing youth with disabilities the opportunity to pursue their academic dreams,” said Doramy Ehling, CEO of the Rick Hansen Foundation.
Ehling added Rick and Amanda Hansen believe everyone "should have the right to a barrier-free education."
"This is an excellent opportunity for youth who align with their values of perseverance, inclusivity and being a difference maker."
To be eligible for this scholarship, students must be under the age of 30 years by the application deadline, and enrolling in a one- to five-year program at a publicly funded Canadian institution.
The deadline for applications is May 14, with recipients announced in the fall.
Ehling added last year's inaugural five recipients are attending Canadian post-secondary institutions and studying in various majors, including sports sciences, nursing, education, accounting and social work.
“These individuals are Canada’s future leaders and we are extremely proud to be partners in their journey.”
