PIGEON FORGE, Tenn. (WVLT) – Sevier County School students were awarded thousands of dollars in scholarships as they got ready to graduate Thursday.
The Pigeon Forge Hospitality and Tourism Association awarded thousands of dollars in scholarships to nine high school seniors.
That money was raised during the annual golf tournament. Winners included Janki Patel, Namrata Thadani, Keyleen Sierra, Ellie Rowland, Wyatt Howard, Franklin Lanza, Morgan Proctor, Kaden Thompson and Samuel Brackins.
The Director of Schools, Stephanie Huskey, said she hopes this will encourage the students to return from college and contribute to the Sevier County economy.
She said these students are a part of the success the school district has made the past few years.
“I’m absolutely proud of my kids. I want to assure everyone there that our future is great and these kids are able to accomplish event more than I could accomplish when I graduated high school many years ago. So, we are just so pleased that they’re ready to go out and conquer what ever lies ahead of them,” said Huskey.
The students were treated to a sample show from Pirates Voyage during the presentation Thursday.
The Hospitality Association also announcing the bowling for tourism event raised more than $5,000 for Walters State Community College in Sevierville.
