Two new scholarships have been established at JO Combs Unified School District to honor the memory of Preston Lord, a high school student whose life was tragically cut short in 2023. The scholarships, created by Preston’s mother, aim to celebrate his legacy of kindness, resilience, and academic dedication.
Each scholarship awards $1,000 and reflects distinct aspects of Preston’s life and values:
In a heartfelt message shared on the Justice4PrestonLord Facebook page, Preston’s mother explained the motivation behind the scholarships:
“I have chosen to establish priority support to Preston’s legacy through what Preston embodied — his school, his sports and studies, and his friends. These scholarships will continue his impact by supporting his peers in their educational journeys.”
The scholarships are a testament to Preston’s enduring influence on his community. The district described him as a young man who brought “kindness, joy, laughter, and humor” to all who knew him.
“Preston’s generosity and love will never be forgotten,” the district shared in a statement. “We honor him by paving the way for future students to achieve their dreams, just as he was on track to achieve his.”
JO Combs Unified School District students can apply for the scholarships here. Donations to support the scholarships and continue Preston’s legacy can be made to the Combs Education Foundation.
The creation of these scholarships ensures that Preston Lord’s impact will continue to inspire students for years to come, embodying his values of generosity, perseverance, and academic excellence.
