The Community Foundation has announced that Maxwell Robrock is the 2025 recipient of Margaret W. Russell Scholarship, totaling $450. The scholarship fund was created in 1994 following a generous donation from Margaret W. Russell to financially support Huntington County youth attending Huntington University.
Robrock is a 2025 graduate of Huntington North High School and plans to attend Huntington University to study Forestry and play baseball. He is the son of Shaana and Brad Robrock. Maxwell is committed to operating his business, Robrock Lawn & Tree LLC, participated in Huntington Youth Leadership, volunteered for Riley Dance Marathon, served as a Freshman Mentor, sat on the Mayorās Council, participated in Campus Life and was a member of HNHS Varsity Baseball & Football teams.
The Community Foundation announced that Maxwell Robrock is the 2025 recipient of the Mark Douglas Fisher Scholarship, totaling $750.
Huntington residents Doug and Tina Fisher established the scholarship in 2019 to honor their son Markās memory. Mark loved coaching youth baseball as Whitko High Schoolās head baseball coach along with coaching various summer baseball leagues. The scholarship provides financial assistance to graduates from preferred high schools that have a strong motivation to complete further education and have a genuine love for baseball.
The Community Foundation announced that Gracie Fields and Hannah Haupert are the 2025 recipients of the Mary Edith Reiff Scholarship, totaling $650 between them. This impactful scholarship was established by Mary Edith Reiff through her Will to help outstanding local students seeking further education.
Fields is a rising sophomore at Marian University where she is pursuing a degree in Exercise Science and Psychology. She is a member of Marian Universityās Cross Country and Track, is an All-American in Track and Field and holds the school record for the Distance Medley Relay (DMR) and 4X800. She also serves as a Marian Presidential Ambassador, is a Woman of Marian and works for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Huntington County. She is the daughter of Vanessa and Aaron Fields.
Haupert is a 2025 graduate of Huntington North High School with plans to attend Ball State University to study Biology/Pre- Dentistry. She is the daughter of Michelle and Shawn Haupert. During her high school career, Haupert was dedicated to her involvement in Varsity Cross Country and Varsity Track & Field, served as Secretary of National Honor Society, achieved Top 25 of her class and volunteered for Huntington County Humane Society.
The Community Foundation announced that Serenidy Mitchem is the 2025 recipient of the Metro Kiwanis Wohlford Memorial Scholarship, totaling $700. Mitchem is a 2025 graduate of Huntington North High School and plans to attend Goshen College to study Physical Education with a minor in Business. Her legal guardian is Tina Renee Fisher.
During her high school career, Mitchem was a member of the National Honor Society, played Varsity Softball, competed in travel softball, earned an academic letter in recognition of her scholastic achievement and volunteered as a bell ringer for the Salvation Army.
This scholarship is sponsored by the Metro Kiwanis of Huntington in memory of Charles (Chuck) Wohlford. A beloved teacher, coach and basketball statistician, Wohlford retired from Huntington North in 1993, becoming an active member of Metro Kiwanis until his passing in 2000. The Community Foundation announced that Abigail Grube, Alexia Ramirez, Alyson Reust, Aubree Cox,
Brooke Swaidner, Elianna Mendez, Emma Szelis, John Markley, Jonah Renkenberger, Julian Haskett, Laura Hartmus, Lindsey Hunt, Owen Follis, Samuel Stults and Serenidy Mitchem are the 2025 recipients of the Charles & Wilma (Sanger) Shuman Family Scholarship, totaling $15,550 between them.
Charles and Wilma Sanger Shuman were residents of Huntington County, and both farmed in southern Huntington and Wabash Counties. They also valued the importance of education and created this scholarship for graduating Huntington North seniors and non-traditional students.
Grube is a rising sophomore at Huntington University, where she is pursuing a degree in Elementary Education with a minor in TESOL. She is the daughter of Angela and Philip Grube. She is dedicated to coaching basketball, serving at her Church, volunteering for the English Learner Program at HU and working for the Spark Program at HU.
Ramirez is entering her sophomore year at the University of Saint Francis studying Nursing and Biology. She is an Orthopedic OR PCT at Lutheran Hospital, volunteers at Matthew 25 Health and Care, serves as Senator for Student Government Association and is Vice President of the United Cultures Association. She is the daughter of Alejandra and Refugio Ramirez.
Reust is a 2025 graduate of Huntington North High School and plans to attend Grace College to study Elementary Education. She is the daughter of Stephanie and Aaron Reust. During her high school career, she was Student Council President, served as a Sunday School teacherās aide, was a Class Council member, participated in National Honors Society and served as a Middle School Campus Life leader.
Cox is a 2025 graduate of Huntington North High School and plans to attend Huntington University to pursue a degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Special Education. During high school, she was dedicated to her involvement in the Education Professions Program, FFA, National Honor Society, Creative Writing Club and the Awakening Community Church. She is the daughter of Holly Lynn and James Protsman.
Swaidner is a rising junior at Grace College where she is studying Elementary Education and Mild Intervention. She is passionate about her work with the Boys & Girls Club, experiencing different practicums throughout her education courses, and her involvement with Baker Youth Club. She is the daughter of Bridget and David Swaidner.
Mendez is a 2025 graduate of Huntington North High School with plans to attend Indiana University Fort Wayne to study Nursing. During her high school career, she was committed to her involvement in National Honor Society, softball and bowling. She is the daughter of Tonya and Edward Mendez.
Szelis will be entering her senior year at Indiana Wesleyan University where she is pursuing a degree in Nursing. She is the daughter of Amy and Trent Szelis. She works as a Student Nurse at Marion Pediatrics, as well as for B&K Rootbeer Stand and her schoolās blood drives. She is passionate about her volunteer service at Carey Services and local churches where she taught about how to find relief from stress and anxiety for a nursing project.
Markley is a rising senior at Indiana Wesleyan University where he is studying Mechanical Engineering. He volunteers for the Night to Shine event at Emmanuel Community Church and serves as a Production Worker at Huntington Sheet Metal. Markley is the son of John and Janel Markley.
Renkenberger is a 2025 graduate of Huntington North High School and plans to attend Indiana Wesleyan University to pursue a degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Spanish. He was a National Honor Society member and is passionate about serving his community through church programming and organizations such as Place of Grace. He is the son of Brittany and Ben Renkenberger.
Haskett is a 2025 graduate of Huntington North High School and plans to attend Purdue Fort Wayne to major in Mechanical Engineering. He is the son of Christopher Scott Haskett and Abby Mae Haskett. He is committed to his involvement in robotics, volunteering at the local animal shelter and helping his family with yard work and renovations.
Hartmus will be entering her senior year at Purdue University Fort Wayne where she is studying Secondary Education, Mathematics and Spanish. She is a member of the Mastodon Catholic club at PFW, serves as a Teaching Assistant for Calculus III, participated in the Indiana Collegiate Mathematics Competition for 2025 where her team placed 5th, and was named the 2025 Recipient of the Lowell W. Beineke Mathematics Scholarship from the College of Science at PFW. She is the daughter of Julie Hartmus Tester and the late Ken Hartmus.
Hunt is currently completing her master’s degree at Purdue University Fort Wayne in Speech- Language Pathology. After graduation, she plans to work in an elementary school or hospital setting as a pediatric speech therapist. Hunt has volunteered for graduate program events for prospective students, administers cognitive and hearing screenings to adults at a local YMCA, leads a weekly Bible study and enjoyed participating in the Indiana Statehouse for the American Speech- Language Hearing Association Legislative Day. She is the daughter of Chris and Lisa Hunt.
Follis is a 2025 graduate of Huntington North High School and plans to attend Purdue Fort Wayne to pursue a degree in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Electronics. He is an Eagle Scout, and participated in All- State Concert Band, Varsity Brass, Jazz Band, Erie Band and Erie Jazz Band. He is the son of Molly and Jeff Follis.
Stults is a rising sophomore at Huntington University where he is studying Mathematics Education. He has achieved Huntington University Dean’s List, is a praise band member at New Life Fellowship Church and enjoys pickleball. He is the son of Jennifer and Jeremy Stults.
Mitchem is a 2025 graduate of Huntington North High School and plans to attend Goshen College to study Physical Education with a minor in Business. Her legal guardian is Tina Renee Fisher.
