The latest Natick Public Schools news:
Eight hundred additional winners of National Merit Scholarships financed by colleges and universities have been announced, and a 2025 Natick High School graduate—Liliana Fernandes Temper—is among them. She’s headed to Boston University, with film production listed as her probably career field.
College-sponsored awards provide between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study at the institution financing the scholarship. This year’s competition for National Merit Scholarships began when high school juniors took the 2023 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.
Hadassah Borges, a rising senior at Natick High School, has been nominated to attend the National Youth Leadership Forum: Intensive Law and Trial at Stanford Law School this summer. This Envision by WorldStrides program is designed to enable students to explore their interests and experience learning beyond the classroom.
“I was always interested in helping people and had initially wanted to go into medicine and even participated in a similar program but for medicine,” Borges says. “But as I grew up, more human rights issues came up to the point where doctors’ abilities were being restricted as well. With that I realized that I could be better suited as a voice for not only my people but for anyone whose rights are being restricted.”
Borges was nominated to attend the forum by the National Research Center of Admissions. A participating member of her school’s Model UN and recently elected as president of the Black and Hispanic Student Union, she also takes both Spanish and French, embracing her Brazilian-American roots.
