The following Upper Valley residents were selected as semifinalists in the 2026 National Merit Scholarship Program in New Hampshire:

The following Upper Valley residents earned bachelor’s degrees from Emerson College in Boston this spring: Elizabeth Gilbert, West Lebanon, marketing communication; and Kayla Wimer, New London, media arts production.
Anna Tregubov, of White River Junction, earned a degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography from Washburn University in Topeka, Kan., this summer.
Daniel Collins, of Windsor, VT, made Champlain College Online president’s list for the summer 2025 semester.

The following Upper Valley residents made the dean’s list at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass., for the spring 2025 semester: Elizabeth Angus, New London; Ava Bucci, Norwich; and Claire Thibodeau, Lebanon.
Students in grades 9 through 12 can submit works of poetry, fiction and nonfiction to Bennington College’s annual writing contest by Nov. 1. Cash prizes of up to $2,000 will be awarded to those who finish in first, second and third place. Students who win and decide to enroll at Bennington College will also be eligible for scholarships. Professor and biology program coordinator James Jukosky and professor and Master of Social Work program director Kate Turcotte are Colby-Sawyer College’s new Sonja C. and William H. Davidow Endowed Chairs. The Davidow chairs are named in honor of Bill and Sonja Davidow, who donated $10 million to Colby-Sawyer.
“The professor who holds an endowed chairship accepts the responsibility to continue to serve as a model for teaching effectiveness as well as leadership, mentorship and care for the intellectual life of the college,” Colby-Sawyer College President Dean McCurdy said in a news release.
Jukosky earned a bachelor’s degree in zoology from the University of New Hampshire and a a doctorate in molecular, cellular and systems physiology from Dartmouth College, according to the release. He studies how pollutants effect wildlife reproduction, how arsenic in drinking water effects the immune system and Canada warbler genetics, among other topics.
Turcotte, earned a master’s degree and doctorate in sociology from the University of New Hampshire and a master’s degree in social work from Fordham University, according to the release. She is a licensed clinical social worker and studies, poverty in the United States, prenatal mental health, cognitive behavioral therapy and domestic violence, among other topics.
