Milton-Freewater Municipal Golf Course its annual Philanthropic Educational Organization (P.E.O.) scholarships fundraising tournament Saturday, June 1, came away with net proceeds of $2,492 from 28 teams participating.
Proceeds help support P.E.O scholarships for women.
The tournament had two-person teams competing in the modified alternate shot format with their field including a women’s division, a men’s and mixed.
Net scoring in the men’s division, factoring in handicaps, featured the top card of the day with frontrunners Lynn Crawford and Josh Helbling compiling a 50 while second place was decided on a tiebreaker as the team of Garrett Barber and Wayne White edged both Greg Fairbanks and Emery Goudy after each shot a 51.
Barber had recorded a hole-in-one, it was reported, acing the 168-yard par-3 No. 2 with a 7-iron. His feat, a first for him in four years of play, was witnessed by White as well as Lupe Contreras, of Milton-Freewater, and Pat Grimm, of Walla Walla.
The men’s division also decided its top gross score on a tiebreaker as the team of Cody Norton and Brandon Williams edged both Matt Helm and Nick Jordan after they had completed the course on 60 strokes.
Meanwhile, the mixed division had its top gross score by the Darnold team of Dennis and Maddi as they turned in a 51 that was eight before the Chestnut duo including Matt and Lora.
As for mixed division net scores, the Wheeler team with Carl and Tara placed first on a 51 that put them one before the duo of Keri Mercer and Gabe Gallaher.
The women’s flight reported net scores with the Norton team of Megan and EZ first 60, two up on the tandem of Belinda Grimm and Megan Rice.
