Schreiner University students Trista Miller and Jared Salinas recently were awarded scholarships for the 2024-25 academic year.
Miller received a $3,500 from the Council of Independent Colleges UPS Foundation Scholarship Program. She is a senior student from Castroville majoring in nursing.
In order to receive the scholarship, Miller created a 28-page story book delving into Schreiner University’s history. The scholarship was available to full-time undergraduate students demonstrating a financial need.
Salinas received $2,625 from the Council of Independent Colleges PACCAR Foundation, a private foundation that directs grants to universities and other organizations. He is a freshman student from Eagle Pass majoring in nursing.
In order to receive the scholarship, Salinas created a replica football stadium looking ahead into Schreiner University’s future out of recycled materials. The scholarship was available to full-time undergraduate students demonstrating a financial need.
Both awards are arranged through the Independent Colleges and Universities of Texas Foundation, which supports Texas independent nonprofit colleges and universities by strengthening member institutions through advocacy, policy research and collaboration.
More than $50 million has been awarded in scholarship grants to State Fund Members for the benefit of more than 18,000 students at independent colleges across the country.
